Mortgage Loan Assistant

Location: Lexington, SC

Position Summary

Responsible for assisting a high producing mortgage lender in managing their pipeline of routine residential mortgage loans.  Assists the mortgage lender by “taking over” a mortgage loan application and managing it through its decisioning process. The ultimate objective is for an MLA to free up a high producer(s) so that they can prospect for  and generate additional business by way of inviting additional mortgage loan applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of how popular residential mortgage loans like Conventional Conforming, FHA, VA, USDA and construction loans are applied for, processed, underwritten and closed. 
  • Interfacing with a mortgage client soon after an application is filed to begin collecting the documents necessary to complete the loan file to be submitted to a processor.
  • Follow up on leads generated by their Mortgage Lender to convert it into a loan application.
  • When required, step in to assist the processor and the mortgage client to clear critical conditions placed on a loan application so that a decision is rendered on time. 
  • Prepare and provide a pre-qualification letter to a requesting mortgage client. Follow up and keep close contact with these clients with an ultimate objective to convert them into a formal mortgage loan application.
  • Offer loan restructuring alternatives to mortgage applicants when applicable.
  • Coordinate the closing date on each loan with a clear expectation of meeting it. Apprise the mortgage client, the mortgage lender, realtor(s) and any other party as applicable if the closing date requires revision.
  • Assume ownership of customer problems to achieve resolution.
  • Serve as an additional contact in responding to mortgage lenders customer inquiries relative to mortgage loan products, rates, procedures, etc.
  • Manage the mortgage lenders pipeline to determine files are dispositioned in a proper and timely manner.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to compute basic to moderately complex math calculations.
  • Basic problem-solving and analytical skills. 
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and office products (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must be licensed with NMLS prior to hire or before any mortgage loan applications may be taken.
