Credit Approval Officer

Location: Lexington

Responsible for evaluating and managing the risk associated with the approval of loans and working within the bank’s credit culture while supporting the bank’s lending efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned.)
  • Credit approvals (within authority level and combined with others)
  • Reviewing loan packages
  • Working with commercial bankers to assist in transaction structures
  • Analyzing financials, evaluating strengths and weaknesses
  • Identifying risks
  • Policy exceptions
  • Work with Chief Credit Officer on larger credits
  • Oversee and manage OREO properties and non-accrual loans
  • Reporting
  • Training for lenders
  • Prepare, attend and participate in the following meetings: Senior Credit, Rated Loans, Loan Committee of the Board, CEO Credit Review, Quarterly Lender


  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of related experience in loan review and commercial lending or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to communicate and function professionally with all levels of personnel and business partners across the organization
  • Able to maintain professional focus in highly adversarial environments
  • Able to compute basic to moderately complex math calculations
  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills.  Ability to interpret a variety of information furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Working knowledge of overall operations of loan/credit departments
  • Strong interviewing, negotiating and coaching skills
  • Ability to establish credibility and rapport
  • Proficiency in FDIC policies and procedures regarding commercial lending
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and Office products (e.g. Word, Excel)
